How do you improve listening comprehension of TV news and tv shows(japanese)?

When you live in usa and it's really hard to knnow words that PEOPLE in japan use and are not very easy to find with study materials here in the usa. Example is that i watch Fuji terebi news, and i can't catch many things cause they use words i can't find anywhere in dictionaries and stuff.
